The new Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) is Tamworth's
latest drawcard.
The AELEC took 14 months
to construct and this spectacular horseshoe complex will now service Australia's large equine and cattle industries.
Tamworth Regional Council and its locals all got behind this new $30 million
construction, which they hope will entice new businesses and tourists to the
area.
Located over a massive 22 hectare site this centre is not only unique because of
the spectacular livestock events that it can hold but also through the unique
way it was built – with cutting edge technology, such as new post tensioned
steel and roof sheeting. The main stadium holds an interconnected indoor arena
and sales complex, which can double as a warm up arena. Six massive stable
blocks sit along the Longyard precinct site and provide 478 stalls for horses.
The covered cattle yards, camp draft, and outdoor areas cater for any event
size. While a TAFE equine and livestock building, constructed inside the stables
complex, will provide new educational facilities to the local area. New
technology has been incorporated into all the stalls to ensure that the animal's
health and safety are maintained. Also a TAFE equine and livestock educational
building will be constructed in the stables complex. The
main arena has two levels and a theatre-styled selling ring which can seat up to
3500 people and an additional 570 in the sales ring so that riders and owners
can see what they like.
