Australia is recognized as having one of the most sophisticated agribusiness
industries in the world. It generates around $111 billion annually. Despite this
high annual turnover, smaller agribusinesses in regional areas are facing
significant financial difficulties. As a result, the Commonwealth Bank of
Australia (CBA) has moved to provide better agribusiness services. As well as
having already established a specific Agribusiness division, the CBA has also
established AgriLine, a dedicated national agribusiness centre.

Launched in April 2007, AgriLine caters to the needs of the bank's smaller
agribusiness clients. As most of them are working on the land or living in
remote areas, it is often difficult for them to get to a branch or to contact an
office during normal office hours. Now, thanks to the AgriLine service, these
customers can get assistance over the phone during extended operating hours.
AgriLine provides a quick and easy way to organize all the banking needs for its
rural customers - arranging everything from loans, asset finance facilities,
transaction accounts, commodity swaps, insurance, and investments.
Calling 1300 245 463 or 1300 A-G-LINE between 7am and 7pm AET Monday to Friday
agribusiness clients have access to a dedicated team of Agri specialists who
work specifically to serve the agribusiness clients.
The Agriline team manages a national customer base of 16,000 agricultural
customers with commercial lending balances under $500,000. Prior to AgriLine,
the majority of these customers had limited contact with relationship managers
and could not always get the specialist support they required. These Agri
specialists include people who have lived in the country and graduates of
agribusiness degrees, ensuring specialist knowledge and understanding of the
Agribusiness clients' businesses.
AgriLine employs over 30 staff – all locals. The national agribusiness centre
represents a significant investment in the local economy by the CBA. The CBA has
long been a supporter of rural businesses and communities. In fact, it has been
working with Australian agribusiness for over 80 years. It currently has the
largest number of agribusiness customers of any bank in Australia. In addition
to AgriLine, the CBA also have experienced agribusiness relationship executives
in 57 sites across rural and regional Australia.
