The MacKay and Bolinda Estates are owned and run by the Mackay family. The
Mackay family consists of seven members, who manage three successful farming
operations: bananas, sugarcanes and beef cattle.

Yet it is their banana business
that is the largest and most widely recognised. MacKay and Bolinda Estates are
the biggest banana producers in Australia. Over a 12-month period they will
produce 2.2 million 13kg cartons of bananas for the Australian market.
This successful family business began with Aussie legend, Stanley Mackay.
Stanley is considered to be the pioneer of banana production in Australia. He
first began growing crops in Tully, Queensland in 1945. He started off with a
one and half-acre hand cleared land and became one of the most respected
producers in his field. In 1984 he received an Order of Australia for his
services to the Agricultural industry. Yet it was Stan's work in eradicating the
leafspot disease in bananas that he is most well know for.
His work has been instrumental in the fight against banana disease. Stan passed
away in 1990, but his knowledge and enthusiasm for banana production has been
passed through to his family. They now run the MacKay and Bolinda Estate, and
produce over 6,000 cartons of bananas a day, with almost 80% of them go
directly to the supermarkets.
