This year the "Telstra Road to Tamworth" competition was won by the soulful
performer, Jasmine Rae. This 21 year old country music star has been snatched up
by ABC Music/Universal Music Australia, and since then has been a whirlwind
sensation. Jasmine first began her vocal training at 13 years of age and since
then has completed an Advanced Diploma in Music in her hometown of Melbourne.
Jasmine's debut album "Look It Up" was released in September 2008. Her album
features an amazing mix of raw country, country-pop and alt-blues. The title
track "Look It Up" topped Music Network Country Hot 30 charts and has spent six
weeks at number one on the charts. This follows her success with her self-penned
debut single "Country Singer", which was released in May 2008 and speedily
reached number one on the CMC Top 30 Charts. Her album debuted on the ARIA
Country Album Charts at number five.
Jasmine's record deal with ABC Music presented her with the opportunity to
record in both Australia and the US with two of Nashville's leading record
producers, Richard Landis and Louie Shelton. Richard Landis, who has produced
music for many successful international artists, helped Jasmine create her hit
single "Country Singer". Jasmine recorded four tracks with Landis in Australia
and completed the rest of the album while in the country music capital of the
world, Nashville. Music legend, Louie Shelton, also had a hand at contributing
to Jasmine's album, which she has been grateful for.
Jasmine performed at Nashville's CMA Music Festival in 2008. More than just a
pretty face with an amazing voice, Landis said of Jasmine that she "came
equipped with far more than a great voice. She had cool production ideas and a
really good understanding of who she is as an artist".
Jasmine is opening for the Brooks & Dunn in Perth and Brisbane throughout May
2008.
