As many people know, it has never been a particularly masculine trait to talk
about their worries or concerns; but that doesn't mean they don't have them. So
that's why the not-for-profit, uniquely Australian organisation, Mensheds has
been formed and is now spreading across the country.
Its main aim is to develop and share individual skills amongst its members and
holds important values by creating life long companionships. But as well as
benefiting individuals, it benefits communities creating a sense of togetherness
and gives the opportunity to socialise. By enlightening the self worth of its
members, this encourages stimulation in economic activities within the
community.
In bringing people together, it draws support from the community to attack
problems together and to lessen feelings of isolation or depression. The great
aspect of this is men can do some of the things they enjoy with participants
sharing their skills, craftsmanship and knowledge on trades and computer
literacy. It provides a strong national voice on men's issues, which can
sometimes be unrecognised.
